When a permit is needed
The City says it requires a permit to construct, alter, repair or demolish a building, or to install, alter or replace electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing systems. Repainting and minor cosmetic changes don't need one. See Do I Need a Permit?.
Remodel paperwork
The City's residential remodel checklist asks for a written scope of work with the remodel square footage and existing and proposed floor plans, plus beam and header details if walls are opened or removed.
Contractor registration

Historic districts and floodplain
